Do you remember the early days of LAN parties, when dial-up was the mainstay and only the rich kids had that newfangled “DSL” or “cable Internet” service? Do you remember lugging your Pentium 3 or your AMD K6 and that shiny new ATI Rage 128 graphics card with a 30 pound 19″ CRT monitor to your friend’s basement to LAN the night away? Do you remember when every game had LAN support for multiplayer because the Internet gaming hadn’t yet gotten popular? Don’t remember it? Regardless, RetroLAN is for you.

RetroLAN is Pittco’s new series of LAN parties for our fall event cycle. Following the success of last year’s Iron Storm PURE, RetroLAN builds on the PURE idea —non-stop old-school PURE LAN party action— and adds a twist: a focus on games released at least 10 years ago.

Pittco RetroLAN will spring to life at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2011 and last until 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2011 at the Castle Shannon VFD Fireman’s Hall. Note that this is a change of venue: we’re in the same area, but at the other building on the premisis. We’ll have signs up, so don’t worry if you head to the Memorial Hall, where we’ve held Iron Storm for several years.

Pittco RetroLAN will feature the following old-school game tournaments:

  • Warcraft 2, 1v1
  • Worms Armageddon, FFA last standing
  • Unreal Tournament, CTF 4v4
  • Quake 2, FFA

Prizes will be determined as sponsors sign on (stay tuned).

What other PC games do we expect to see? Howsabout Descent 1/2/3, Team Fortress Classic, Half-Life, Quake, Science and Industry, Natural Selection, Serious Sam, WarCraft II, StarCraft, and more. We’ll also have some old school consoles.

We’re gearing our sponsorship towards support of retrogaming. Got a great retrogaming-centric company you’d like to see sponsor Pittco RetroLAN? Let us know in the forums.

There will are 75 seats available, with the possibility of more becoming available if demand is great. Pre-registration is $25 at the Pittco.org shopThe door price is $30.
